This just in! According to SpoilerTV.com, Fringe will be returning for its fifth and final season on Friday, September 28th at 9pm! As well, Touch will be returning for its second season on Friday, October 26th at 8pm as a lead-in to Fringe. I wonder if the two of them will be a successful pairing as Friday nights seem to be filled with competition from other sci-fi/ fantasy shows like NBC’s Grimm and CW’s Nikita.

Sorry to all you Alcatraz fans but my prediction was right. The show, unsurprisingly, has been cancelled by FOX, according to TVByTheNumbers. The JJ Abrams-produced drama was getting very mediocre ratings (usually below a 2.0 in the 18-49 demographic) and it didn’t have great fan/ critic reception either, many saying that the show was too procedural (like CSI) and that too few sci-fi/ conspiracy elements were being utilized.
That’s too bad, another sci-fi show ended quickly. Hopefully Revolution can fill the void on TV this fall.
My prediction was also right about Touch which was picked up for another season, despite its so-so ratings. That’s probably all it will get too.

I’ve been following the business of TV (ratings and so on) for several years now and have gotten fairly good at predicting renewals vs cancellations. Below are my predictions for all the sci-fi and fantasy shows on the 5 major American networks.
FOX:
-Fringe: renewed for a fifth and final season of 13 episodes!
- Touch: ratings aren’t great but I think it will get one more season, even an extra short one
- Alcatraz: will be cancelled.
- Terra Nova: already cancelled. Netflix talks fell through as well.
NBC:
- Awake: Ratings are VERY low, even for NBC’s standards. The show is great but I’d be surprised if it got one more season. Fingers crossed though!
-Grimm: Already renewed for a second season. Seems to be doing very well on Fridays.
CW:
- Supernatural: Renewed for an 8th season
- Nikita: Doesnt look good. Most likely cancelled.
- Vampire Diaries: Renewed.
CBS:
- Persons of Interest: Already renewed for a second season. Haven’t watched this but I’ve heard great things. Glad to see a sci-fi show actually getting good ratings!
ABC:
- The River: Will be cancelled. Netflix was in talks to pick this up but its VERY doubtful.
- Once Upon A Time: Will be renewed for sure.
