With the cast (minus Jewel Staite) and crew of Firefly/ Serenity gearing up for their panel at Comic-Con next week, Sean Maher (Simon Tam) was interviewed by Graffiti With Punctuation recently about Comic-Con and other things.  He had a very interesting quote when asked about a possible Serenity sequel/ new season of Firefly.

“…so if there is something going on and I’m not being kept in the loop about it, I wouldn’t be surprised.  [Joss] never ceases to surprise me.”

Hmmm, interesting.  Very interesting!  Obviously this is all speculation/ hopeful thinking but with Joss Whedon’s power and influence level increasing all the time, the thought of a return to the ‘verse must have at least crossed his mind.  I guess we’ll have to wait for next week to find out what Joss is cooking up!

Check out the rest of the interview linked above for more info on both the panel, Firefly’s impact and Whedon’s upcoming adaptation of “Much Ado About Nothing.”

Great news for anyone going to Comic-Con this year (sadly, not me)!  The entire cast of Firefly including Nathan Fillion, Summer Glau, Adam Baldwin and the rest of the gang, plus writer Tim Minear and creator/God Joss Whedon will be appearing at a panel hosted by the Science Channel on Friday, July 13th in Ballroom 20!  Below is the press release:

Friday 7/13/12, 12:30 p.m.–1:30 p.m., Room: 20
It has been 10 years since the crew of Serenity took flight in Joss Whedon’s short-lived but now revered series, FIREFLY. SCIENCE will reconvene, for the first time in a decade, Captain Mal Reynolds and the crew from the ship, calling all Browncoats to unite at the 2012 San Diego Comic-Con. The cast of FIREFLY will talk about the past, present and future of FIREFLY, 10 years after its debut. SHINY.

Wow this looks like an exciting opportunity for all you Browncoats headed to  San Diego in a few weeks as unless something new is in the works (Serenity 2 perhaps?), the cast probably won’t be uniting like this again for a long time.  With all the success that Joss Whedon has had with The Avengers, I’d say its definitely possible he now has the influence and money to pull together a sequel for the fans that have been supporting him all these years.  Come on Joss, return to the ‘verse!  He has shown interest in a sequel, saying,

“You know, I love all my raggedy children, but if I could be anywhere, I’d be on board Serenity.”

Make it happen, we want another movie!  Or even better, somehow convince HBO to buy the rights to Firefly from FOX and continue the series!

Will you be attending?  TAKE ME WITH YOU!

EDIT: Jewel Staite, who played Kaylee Frye on the show, will not be attending.  She confirmed this on Twitter: https://twitter.com/JewelStaite/status/218389336306098176

This is pretty awesome!  Here’s an animated short  made by Jed Whedon showing humanity abandoning an irreparable earth and flying away into space to colonize other worlds.  Though it doesn’t officially have the Firefly/ Serenity name on it, it looks an awful lot like a prequel to the franchise!  It’s really well done and I would love to see more animated shorts set in the ‘verse.

What’d you think?  Kinda haunting eh?

Random question of the day!  With Prometheus less than a month away and several great looks at the ship, I’m wondering how the Prometheus matches up against our other great ships.

So, what is your favourite looking spaceship?

For me, it is a toss-up between “Serenity” from Joss Whedon’s Firefly and “Destiny” from Stargate: Universe but they are all pretty awesome in their own ways.

Here are pictures of each ship listed to help you decide (I tried to keep it to the most well-known ship from each franchise so there wouldn’t be a billion options in the poll).  The Poll is below all of them.

Battlestar Galactica:

USS Enterprise:

Millennium Falcon:

SSV Normandy SR-1:

Planet Express Ship (why not):

TARDIS (yes it is a spaceship, not just a time machine):

I tried to add as many of the best ships that I could think of.  If you have a different answer, vote as other and comment below why you chose that.

A new minute long clip appeared online today, showing off Ridley Scott’s Prometheus in all her awesome glory.  The ship is so cool and reminds me a lot of Serenity from Joss Whedon’s cult favorite show, Firefly, which was just such a neat looking ship.  The clip makes is clear that Idris Elba’s character is the captain of the ship, just in case anyone was curious.  Clip is below.

What do you think of the ship?  Excited to see the actual film? Well it’s coming out very soon on June 8th!
