I finally found a link to the Firefly panel! Check it out!

Yesterday was the 10 year anniversary Firefly panel at Comic-Con. I have not been able to find a video yet but I will post it when it becomes available but I heard it was an incredibly entertaining and emotional event. One thing Joss Whedon did say when asked about a return to the ‘verse was (according to Bleeding Cool) was,
“The opening sequence [of a Firefly reboot] is a conversation between Wash and Book”
Now I am not sure if this was a joke or not. The article says it was in a serious tone that even surprised the cast. The fact that he has considered what he would do if given the chance to bring back the series is great news right? Well, I am not quite as optimistic about this as it seems to contradict a previous statement he had said during the day. A Twitter user, @LisatwinGomez, who was live-tweeting the event (and was my main source of coverage while following the panel on the train home from work) tweeted the following:
“If Joss were to make a season 2 of Firefly right now, he wouldn’t bring Wash back to life because that would mean he’d have to make River crazy. In other words, he wouldn’t want to digress the characters. They’d have to move forward.”
So his statement about the first scene being a conversation between Wash and Book could be just a joke. Hmm…so Joss is either messing with us or has 2 separate ideas on Firefly returning. Honestly, I’d prefer to forget Serenity ever happened so we could have Wash and Book back.
The science channel also commented on a Firefly return saying,
“We can help you with that!”
Now their enthusiasm doesn’t surprise me at all. The Science channel picked up the rights to air Firefly last year and I am sure they truly appreciate the lasting love of the franchise as could be the seen by the massive line to get into Ballroom 20 yesterday. Though I am sure they would love to bring Firefly back, I don’t see them being able to do it just because of the budgetary needs that a Firefly reboot would require. The Science channel doesn’t seem to be made of money. Not to mention that the series right alone (that FOX currently owns) would cost a ton of money.
Still, maybe Joss is planning something after all and you know I would love to return to the ‘verse. Joss did confirm that “A Shepherds Tale” was a huge success for Dark Horse comics and that there will be more Firefly comics, set in both the past and future! So either way, the story will continue!

According to EW, a Firefly reunion special called “Browncoats Unite” is being made by the Science Channel and will include video from the upcoming 10 year anniversay panel at Comic-Con on Friday. The special will air along with a Firefly marathon on November 11th on the Science Channel. They said,
“Firefly is a landmark work of science fiction and a favorite with our viewers,” said Debbie Myers, general manager and executive vp of Science. “Ever since it premiered on Science, fans have asked us to do something special to mark its 10-year anniversary. With this signature celebration, punctuated by Browncoats Unite, we will connect the minds behind this classic franchise with its legions of passionate fans.”
That’s great news and I look forward to seeing it. I just hope this isn’t the only Firefly Comic-Con surprise…

The other day, I posted about an interesting quote from Firefly actor Sean Maher about the rumours of a possible return of Firefly being in the works. Of course, those rumours have always existed but have now kicked it into high gear with the upcoming Firefly Comic-Con panel promising surprises. Now, Joss Whedon is himself has said something about it. With the panel less than a week away, he recently wrote,
“No matter how many years pass, I’ll never forget ‘Firebug.’ I can’t wait to sit once more with Washboard, KayMart, Rivet, the Hot Hooker from Homeland and Captain Kirk. Those guys are my family. Expect laughter, tears, faith-healing and Internet rumors about a sequel. To infinity, and prosper!”
First of all, LOL. But seriously, this quote seems like Joss is kind of telling fans to not expect what we are all hoping for. SADFACE!
