Good news! A new sci-fi magazine called “The Speculative Edge” has released their premiere issue online and we have been given the go-ahead to release it for free for all of you to enjoy!   It has a lot of great articles, stories and more!  You can download it here.

Below is their press release explaining who they are:

The Speculative Edge is a monthly print and digital magazine featuring the best speculative short stories, poetry, movie and book reviews, essays, author interviews, and contests. Published worldwide, a new edition of the Speculative Edge is available on the first of every month, in both print and digital versions, beginning August 1st, 2012.
According to Shane R Collins, Editor in Chief of The Speculative Edge, “In developing The Speculative Edge, I’ve had two goals in mind. First and foremost, I wanted to create a magazine for people who love the science fiction, fantasy, and horror genres. If you like movies, we publish reviews of blockbusters and independent films alike. If you like stories, we publish some of the best short fiction anywhere. If you like poetry, we publish a dozen imaginative poems in each issue. But more importantly, we publish what our readers want. We constantly have polls on our Facebook page to see what our audience is interested in. For instance, we recently learned that The Walking Dead is one of our audience’s favorite TV shows, so in September, we will run an extended preview focusing on the upcoming season.
“My second goal for the magazine was try to bridge the gap between genre and literary writing. There is a lot of animosity between these writers, and I believe it is unnecessary. Our goal is to publish writing that balances plot with character. We strive to publish stories that have fascinating and unique worlds, but also illuminate the human condition.”
The Speculative Edge’s staff understands that readers need literature that they can relate to, literature that they want to read. The Speculative edge cares about their readers’ opinions, so be sure to check them out on Facebook (www.Facebook.com/TheSpeculativeEdge) or on Twitter (www.Twitter.com/SpeculativeEdge) and share your opinion, because they want to hear it! Enjoy!

AMC has released a new Walking Dead Comic-Con poster and man does it look awesome!  On the left you have sword-wielding Michonne (I’ve read the books and I’ll tell you right now she is bad-ass), a stressed out, intense-looking Rick in the middle and on the right, one my favourite bad guys of all time, The Governor.  Despite the mediocrity of the first 2 seasons, I have faith that this season is going to be far better.

The Walking Dead is set to return sometime in October for its third season of 16 episodes and a preview of the upcoming season will be released soon at Comic-Con next week!  Awesome!

In case you didn’t hear, award-winning Sci-fi author Ray Bradbury died yesterday at the age of 91.  He was a literary genius and wrote several great novels including Fahrenheit 451 and The Martian Chronicles.  He will be missed.

Here is a great quote by him (check here for more):

“We must move into the universe. Mankind must save itself. We must escape the danger of war and politics. We must become astronauts and go out into the universe and discover the God in ourselves.”

RIP.

Remember Stargate Universe Virtual Season 3 I wrote about the other day?  Well it is back online in full (all 8 scripts) for free at Laurence Moroney’s website: http://www.philotic.com/stargate/.  I guess whatever was going on behind the scenes didn’t work out.  That’s too bad but at least the scripts are back online for all to enjoy!

Here is his Facebook status update in regards to this:

‎”For those of you who are interested, the Virtual Season 3 of SGU is back online. It was taken offline for a very good reason, which I’ll disclose the full details of someday, but it’s back online for now…

Read it and see what might have been…”

Still, it provides great closure to a series that ended too soon.  Thanks for the effort Laurence, the fans appreciate it!
