Great news for anyone going to Comic-Con this year (sadly, not me)!  The entire cast of Firefly including Nathan Fillion, Summer Glau, Adam Baldwin and the rest of the gang, plus writer Tim Minear and creator/God Joss Whedon will be appearing at a panel hosted by the Science Channel on Friday, July 13th in Ballroom 20!  Below is the press release:

FIREFLY 10-YEAR ANNIVERSARY
Friday 7/13/12, 12:30 p.m.–1:30 p.m., Room: 20
It has been 10 years since the crew of Serenity took flight in Joss Whedon’s short-lived but now revered series, FIREFLY. SCIENCE will reconvene, for the first time in a decade, Captain Mal Reynolds and the crew from the ship, calling all Browncoats to unite at the 2012 San Diego Comic-Con. The cast of FIREFLY will talk about the past, present and future of FIREFLY, 10 years after its debut. SHINY.

Wow this looks like an exciting opportunity for all you Browncoats headed to  San Diego in a few weeks as unless something new is in the works (Serenity 2 perhaps?), the cast probably won’t be uniting like this again for a long time.  With all the success that Joss Whedon has had with The Avengers, I’d say its definitely possible he now has the influence and money to pull together a sequel for the fans that have been supporting him all these years.  Come on Joss, return to the ‘verse!  He has shown interest in a sequel, saying,

“You know, I love all my raggedy children, but if I could be anywhere, I’d be on board Serenity.”

Make it happen, we want another movie!  Or even better, somehow convince HBO to buy the rights to Firefly from FOX and continue the series!

Will you be attending?  TAKE ME WITH YOU!

EDIT: Jewel Staite, who played Kaylee Frye on the show, will not be attending.  She confirmed this on Twitter:

Great news for all you fans of James Cameron’s blockbuster film, Avatar!  According to Sigourney Weaver, all three of them will be made at once, shooting back-to-back-to-back, starting this Fall!  I guess this means that her character, Grace, will be back despite dying in the first one.

Cameron has addressed this, saying:

“When you have a science-fiction series, a science-fiction franchise, you’re never dead, unless your DNA is expunged from the universe.”

Regardless, this is great news as this will hopefully make the wait between each sequel much shorter.  Though no official schedule has been set for the release of the three movies, IMDB says that we can expect Avatar 2 in 2015.  Whether Cameron meets that deadline, well we’ll have to wait and see.

I stumbled across this really cool potential web series pilot called Tether, created by Corridor Digital, the guys behind the awesome Dubstep Guns video.  It’s been out on Youtube for almost a month now but I figured I’d share it anyways because it is extremely well done and needs your support!

Here is the synopsis:

Enter the mysterious world of Tether; a post-apocalyptic setting where mankind is slowly rebuilding from a virus that decimated the world a century ago. Now, mysterious cables are dropping from the sky, revealing an isolated world long forgotten.

Here are a few other Tether videos I was able to find:

This is a short “about Tether” video with the creators talking about why they made it, the fact that it had a large budget that they funded out of their own pockets and that they may make another one based on the positive feedback they have gotten, maybe funding a new one with a kickstarter.

Here is a short Tether video from over a year ago.  They mentioned in their “about Tether” video that they tried to make it a while ago and that it didn’t originally work out.  I guess this must be it.

Anyways, this potential web series is VERY cool and I would love to see more of it.  Hopefully the creators decide to put of a kickstarter to fund more of it!  I love the fact that more and more original, high quality and interesting sci-fi content is being created for online viewing because we are certainly having a tough time finding it on network television!  Eliminate the middle-man and support these guys!

What did you think?

Remember the independent Star Trek shows I mentioned a while back?  Well, here is an update on 2 of them (the third, ST: Cardinal, was pitched to CBS recently).

Star Trek: Excalibur

ST: Excalibur is currently in production in Las Vegas!  Here is a first look at it, posted on Thursday!

Looks pretty great, doesn’t it?  Especially for an independent project, the sets and costumes look very well done.  Check them out on Facebook, they are constantly posting on it, from the announcing of casting of characters to asking for extras to join in on the filming!

Star Trek: Titan

The video below was released about a year ago but ST: Titan is still alive and preparing for production soon but they need more support and followers to make it happen!  Check them out on Facebook, like them and share them with your friends!  They are always looking for people to get involved too!
